David Beckham isn’t the only recent addition to french soccer. Our small town has a soccer team. The town maintains two very nice fields complete with locker rooms and a concession stand. The local businesses display trophies from season’s past and team photos. They also all sponsor the local team.
Joel showed up at practice a couple of weeks ago and they asked him back for the next practice. He was apparently trying out. They decided they want him on the team and he has been completing the requisite paperwork in order to play. Since it’s an official city team he must go through city hall as well as receive doctor’s approval. The town MD approved him for play yesterday and he may be out as soon as this Sunday.
He took his time with the paperwork when Alex & Heather were in town but the other morning a team manager showed up at our front door encouraging him to move it along. It would appear they are eager for him to play.
We never dreamed that when we moved to a town half the size of Davidson (the school, not the down) Joel would find a competitive team on which to play. Wonders never cease.
He is thrilled to say the least. Although he could do without all the drills and actually sprinting at practice.

go, Joel, gooooo!
Oh my gosh, I love this! Way to go, Joel!
P.S. I sent you a letter.
Joel, that’s just fantastic!
Hey Dad- First comment ever! I’ll make sure to update the blog after he’s played a few games.
Not surprising, Joel. I expect the word has been out all over France since your arrival…
Congrats Joel! I hope you enjoy it… even wind sprints are fun when you know a goal is at the end of them.
